Biosynthesis of the terpenoid dendrobine. Early stages of the pathway

Abstract

2-trans,6-trans-farnesol is shown to be a precursor in the biosynthesis of dendrobine rather than the 2-cis, 6-trans-isomer; the 1-pro-R hydrogen of farnesol is involved in a 1,3-shift in the early stages of the pathway.
