THE TEMPORARY NATURE OF THE INHIBITORY ACTION OF EXCESS IODIDE ON ORGANIC IODINE SYNTHESIS IN THE NORMAL THYROID1

Abstract
Expts. designed to test the duration of inhibition, by excess iodide, of organic binding of I in the thyroid gland are descr. The inhibitory action of excess iodide on the normal rat thyroid is temporary. Inhibition lasted for about 26 hrs. Despite the continued maintenance of a high level of plasma total I (100-200 [mu]g. %), the formation of significant amts. of organic I was resumed after 26 hrs.
