THE EFFECT OF DIETHYLSTILBESTROL ON THE IN VITRO FORMATION OF PHOSPHOLIPIDS IN THE LIVER AS MEASURED WITH RADIOACTIVE PHOSPHORUS

Abstract
The rates of incorporation of inorganic radio-phosphorus into phospholipid by surviving slices of liver obtained from 1) normal birds and 2) birds that had received a single inj. of 10-15 mg. of diethylstilbestrol were compared. A significant increase in the in vitro formation of radiophospholipid of the liver of the stilbestrol-treated bird was observed. This suggests that the increase in plasma phospholipids produced by the inj. of diethylstilbestrol results from an increase in the rate of formation of phospholipids by the liver.
