A survey of the incidence of severe shrinkage of cells of the islets of Langerhans in pancreases from 1,000 children, suggests that around the time of birth there is an acute involution or discharge of cell contents of the islets of Langerhans. This is most obvious in children of low gestatlonal age at birth.
