ENDOCARDITIS DUE TO PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA

Abstract
A case of P. aeruginosa endocarditis in a diabetic patient which also presented a P. aeruginosa septicemia and meningitis is reported. P. aeruginosa were isolated by blood cultures and by post-mortem cultures of mitral vegetations and menin-geal exudate. The apparent portal of entry was the genitourinary tract, probably from a focus in the prostate (abscess). The involved mitral valve showed evidence of old rheumatic(?) involvement. This case also presented marked vascular involvement and focal glomerular nephritis. A review of the literature is included.
