ANTISPORULATION FACTORS IN COMPLEX ORGANIC MEDIA I

Abstract
Seven strains of B. larvae produced little or no growth on several complex organic media. Treatment of the media with activated charcoal or soluble starch induced substantial increases in growth, through the removal of growth-inhibitory substances. The sporulation percentage also was greatly enhanced because of the removal or neutralization of naturally occurring anti-sporulation factors. Microscopic aspects of B. larvae cultures are discussed.
