Abstract
The "gauge technique" for solving field theories introduced in an earlier paper is applied to scalar and vector electrodynamics. It is shown that for scalar electrodynamics there is no infinity in the theory, while with conventional subtractions vector electrodynamics is completely finite. The essential ideas of the guage technique are explained in Part II, Sec. 1 of the paper, and a preliminary set of rules for finite computation in vector electrodynamics is set out in Part III, Sec. 2.
