Abstract
This paper refers to the work carried out by the author in the framework of the Italian project TELCO, which aims at defining a communication system for cooperative driving applications. Inter-vehicle and beacon-to-vehicle communications at 63.5 GHz in highway environments are investigated. The purpose of the paper is network performance evaluation by considering a multi-hop reservation Aloha protocol, proper transmission techniques and a suitable propagation model. The performance is assessed both by means of a simulation tool and analytical modeling, in terms of packet success probability and deadline failure probability; the main protocol parameters, such as the total bit rate and the number of slots per frame, are defined.
