Abstract
Little emphasis in recreation research has been given to the derivation of activity packages and to assessing whether or not these are consumed by definable segments of the population. A cluster technique based on information statistic (2ΔI) was used to derive such activity packages for 882 Quebec individuals based on their participation in 26 outdoor recreational pursuits. At each major cluster break 27 profile variables were tested to ascertain whether or not socioeconomic characteristics were associated with the recreational activity packages. The analysis indicated that eight activity packages existed in the Quebec recreational data; these were participated in by individuals exhibiting different profile characteristics.1Keywords
