Efficient Luminescent Energy Transfer from Mn2+ to Yb3+ in CaF2

Abstract
The system was selected for study because it held promise for the experimental realization of Dexter's hypothesized simultaneous transfer of energy from one sensitizer to two activators. Emission, excitation, and decay measurements show that efficient Mn2+ to Yb3+ energy transfer does occur. However, analysis of the data indicates that the mechanism of energy transfer involves the more familiar direct ion‐to‐ion transfer.
