Maori Plaggen soils in New Zealand, their origin and properties

Abstract

Maori Plaggen soils are prehistoric cultivated soils containing sand and, or, gravel transported by man. They are represented by two extreme types: those which are a layer of transported sediments poorly mixed with a former ground soil; and those where the transported sediments are well mixed. Five Maori Plaggen soils in central New Zealand are described.
