Abstract
This paper reviews literature in the area of in‐service training for persons working with individuals with impairments. It is proposed that in‐service training must be related to the general process of adult education and to other types of interventions, for example organizational changes. A model is presented in which in‐service training is compared with ordinary client focused intervention along the dimensions: target group, goals, target population, format, topic, focus, process and time frame. Implication of these comparisons for the format and content of in‐service training are discussed.
