Fusaric (5-Butylpicolinic) Acid: Its Effect on Plasma Growth Hormone

Abstract
Thriteen healthy men, aged 20 to 24 yr, were administered fusaric (5-butylpicolinic) acid orally to assess its effects on human growth hormone secretion. Nine of the 13 responded with elevation in hGH concentration above 7 ng/ml, peak levels occuring between 1.5 hr and 5.5 hr after the drug administration. No hGH release was observed in the 10 subjects receiving a placebo. No effects were seen on the plasma concentrations of blood glucose and insulin after the administration of fusaric acid.
