Effects of Diethylcholine and Ethionine on Growth Rate, Liver Fat, and Kidney Degeneration of Rats

Abstract

Ethionine and diethylcholine, ethyl homologs of methionine and of choline respectively, reduce liver fat and prevent hemorrhagic kidney degeneration of rats on a low-choline, low-methionine diet. This effect cannot be due to direct participation in lecithin formation since subnormal amts. of choline or its ethyl analogs were found in the liver.
