Absorption of Phospholipides

Abstract
Unanesthetized rats provided with intestinal lymphatic fistulae were fed either (a) phospholipids prepared from liver of rats fed C14-palmitic acid or (b) triglycerides containing palmitic acid-l-Cl4. In the expt. in which labeled phospholipid was fed, about 20% of lymph fatty acid-C14 was present as phospholipids. In the expt. with labeled triglyceride, the corresponding value was about 3%. The finding that a significant portion of fed phospholipids is absorbed before they undergo complete hydrolysis is confirmed.
