Simplified Procedure for Determination of Estrogen in Pregnancy Urine

Abstract
Determination of total estrogen in pregnancy urine has involved hydrolysis, extraction of estrogen, development of color, and extraction of chromogen prior to absorbance measurements. The necessity for each of these steps was evaluated and a more simple procedure was developed which requires only extraction of estrogen and development of color. The new procedure should be useful for prenatal screening and monitoring of high-risk pregnancies.
