Abstract
A recent set of measurements of tissue-air ratios for large field sizes (Gupta and Cunningham, 1965) for 160Co γ rays has brought to light some inconsistencies in the currently accepted definition of back-scatter factor. It has also been noted that the most widely published values for backscatter factors (and therefore tissue-air ratios and scatter functions) for this radiation contain a small but persistent systematic error.Keywords
