Hypercalcemia, Nephrocalcinosis and Reversible Renal Insufficiency Associated with Hyperthyroidism

Abstract
HYPERTHYROIDISM is often associated with osteoporosis,1 2 3 increased urinary excretion of calcium4 and an accelerated turnover of calcium stores.5 Nevertheless, hyperthyroidism is not usually seriously considered in the differential diagnosis of hypercalcemia, and only 4 cases have been recorded in which hypercalcemia was believed to be a consequence of the hyperthyroid state.6 , 7 The present report deals with a patient in whom hyperthyroidism was associated with hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis and renal insufficiency. With successful treatment of the hyperthyroidism, the hypercalcemia disappeared, and renal function improved considerably.Case ReportH.M.
