Effects of Paired Doses of Whole Body Irradiation in the Rhesus Monkey

Abstract
The LD50 for a single dose of radiation is 570 [plus or minus] 25 r. When the dose is given in 2 sessions, 7 days apart the LD50 increases to 736 r; when the 2 sessions are 20 days apart the LD50 is 883 r. The dose in the initial session was 260 r. The effect of paired doses on the hemopoietic system is compared with the effects of single radiation. The behavior of the reticulocytes offered the best indication of the probable fate of the individual.
