Territorialism in Deer

Abstract

Territory, as here used, is meant to include an area or range exclusively occupied by an individual or group of individuals of a species, which is defined and recognized by them as their exclusive property or territory. Such a territory may be actively defended against invasion by others outside the territory of the individual group. Where not defended, the territory is nevertheless definitely marked by recognizable “sign posts” on the territory.
