Crossed Immunoelectrophoretic Identification of Partially Purified Type Common and Type Specific Herpes Simplex Virus Glycoprotein Antigens

Abstract
HSV [herpes simplex virus] glycoprotein antigens obtained from Triton X-100-solubilized type 1- and type 2-infected cells were partially purified by ion-exchange chromatography and analyzed by crossed immunoelectrophoresis in Triton X-100 containing agarose gel. Two HSV type common, 2 HSV type 1 specific, and 1 HSV type 2 specific antigens were identified. Rabbits immunized with the HSV glycoprotein preparations developed strong viral-neutralizing antibodies.
