A Chlorophyll-Containing Cell Fraction from the Blue-Green Alga, Anabaena variabilis

Abstract
Examination by electron microscopy of thin sections of Anabaena variabilis reveals the presence of cytoplasmic membranes organized into flattened sacs. A subcellular fraction containing the chlorophyll and carotenoids consisted of vesicles which appear to be derived from fragmented sacs. It is suggested that the cytoplasmic membranes are important for photosynthesis.
