Metoprolol for Essential Tremor

Abstract
To the Editor: We wish to report a favorable response to metoprolol in a patient who had essential tremor and was intolerant of propranolol.A 65-year-old man with chronic obstructive lung disease had had the onset of tremor 15 years earlier. The tremor began in the left arm but gradually involved both arms and the head, causing difficulty with reading, eating and writing. He was drinking with a straw and eating messily with a spoon. There was no family history of tremor. Alcohol did not suppress the tremor, and amantadine, benztropine, diazepam, haloperidol and levodopa had produced no beneficial effect. . . .
