New Measure of Nuclear Transition Strengths

Abstract
A simple procedure is presented for extracting a new model-insensitive, inelastic strength factor AL for Tassie-like nuclear excitations directly from the data. AL, a measure of the coupling strength at large momentum transfer, is to be contrasted with the low-momentum-transfer B(EL). AL is extracted for the 3 (2.61) and 5 (3.2) states in Pb208 and the 2+ (1.3) state in Ni60, showing that these excitations are Tassie-like and that for the 3 state AL is projectile independent.
