Abstract
The Lindemann melting law is generalized by reformulating it in terms of the statistical-mechanical partition function. With the reformulated law, a melting curve is calculated for argon, which is in good agreement with experiment. A number of well-known melting laws are derived by using this generalized approach. Keywords
