Preparation of thin foils from 0$middot$01 inch diameter wire for electron microscopy

Abstract
Two techniques are described for preparation of thin foils from longitudinal and transverse sections of fine wire. The technique for longitudinal sections involves the use of a purpose-built jig, whilst transverse sections are prepared by a modified disk-thinning technique. The methods have been applied to niobium-titanium superconductor wire and also aluminium, copper and tungsten wires.
