Synthesis of ecdysone.II.Synthesis of and Stereochemistry of 2β, 3β-Dihydroxycholestan-6-ones and Their Derivatives

Abstract

2[beta],3[beta]-Dihydroxycholestan-6-ones and their derivatives were prepared and their stereochemistry was studied. In 2/3,3/3-dihydroxy- or 2[beta],3[beta]-diacetoxycholestan-6-ones, equilibrium mixture consisted of 5[alpha]- and 5[beta]-compound at the ratio of 3:2. The 5a-compound was found to be exclusively stable in 2[beta],3[beta]-dihydroxycholestan-6-one acetonides.
