THE QUALITY OF SODIUM BISMUTHATE AS A FACTOR AFFECTING THE DETERMINATION OF URINARY 17-HYDROXYCORTICOSTEROIDS

Abstract
A comparison of different preparations of sodium bismuthate, 70.1-87.6% purity, was made with respect to their efficacy in the determination of urinary 17-hydroxycorticosteroids (17-OH-CS) by a procedure employing a reaction time of 30 minutes. The reaction rate of urinary 17-OH-CS varies considerably with the sodium bismuthate preparation used. The authors recommend that the method for the determination of 17-OH-CS be standardized by agreeing on a reaction time that would be adequate for use with any standard preparation of sodium bismuthate.
