Abstract
424 patients in general practice who suffered from pneumonia or acute bronchitis in 1949-1954 were reassessed functionally in 1959. 9% were complete invalids and 43% disabled. The disability is further classified according to the original acute condition, age, and social class, and it is concluded that a single occurence of acute chest illnesshad approximately doubled the disability to be expected in a random population sample.
