Abstract
Manganese‐activated phosphors were prepared by solid state reactions throughout the spinel crystalline solution region in the system. The best ultraviolet‐excited phosphor examined, , is characterized by a peak emission wavelength at 512 ran, a 50% peak intensity band width of 36 nm, and a quantum efficiency equivalent to that of . Al3+ for Ga3+ substitutions in lead to phosphors with improved cathodoluminescence, decreased photoluminescence, longer peak emission wavelength, and longer cathodoluminescence decay characteristics. These data are discussed in view of temperature, crystal structure, and related literature.
