Influence of brightness preference on the assessment of cortical-lesion deficits in rats.

Abstract
2 experiments were conducted concerning the possible influence of differential brightness preference on the assessment of posterior lesion deficits in rats. In Exp. I 40 adult male Long-Evans hooded rats were tested for brightness preference in a free-choice situation. Ss chose the brighter of 2 alternatives while normals consistently responded to positions. When 60 adult male Long-Evans hooded rats were tested in a learning situation, Ss required to select a dimmer alternative needed more trials to criterion than either normals or Ss choosing a bright alternative or normals selecting a dim stimulus.
