Abstract
Lattice bodies (lattice-like aggregations of membranous tubules or vesicles) and filament bundles (extensive bundles of parallel 200-Å filaments) were first described in one cell type (medullary excipulum cells) of the apothecium of Ascobolus. Here, a detailed discussion is provided of the differential effects of three fixatives (potassium permanganate, osmium tetroxide, and glutaraldehyde) on these structures in medullary cells with reference to fixative effects on cell structure in other organisms.
