Abstract
The type descriptions and paratype specimens of the type-species of Globanomalina Haque, G. ovalis Haque, 1956, together with the type descriptions and ideotypes of Globigerina pseudoiota Hornibrook, 1958, are reassessed and the species are synonymous. The primary types of the taxa are of late paleocene to earliest Eocene age (Zones P?4-6). The genus Globanomalina Haque is trochospiral, microperforate and smooth-walled, and the generic name should be used for species of the lineage from G. archeocompressa (Blow) (Beginning in earliest Paleocene, Zone P.alpha.) to G. luxorensis (Nakkady) (earliest Eocene, Zones P6-?8). Contrary to recently published opinion, it is not a synonym of the planispiral, macroperforate genus Pseudohastigerina Banner and Blow (early Eocene, Zone P6, to early Oligocene, Zone P19), but is its immediate ancestor.
