Abstract
THIS communication describes two large, unrelated, and uncommon tumors found simultaneously in the mediastinum of a sixty-six-year-old woman. The coincidence is apparently unique, and each tumor is of interest. The first, a leiomyoma of the esophagus as large as any recorded, illustrates the atypical roentgenologic features resulting from an almost entirely extramural direction of growth. The second tumor, a carcinoma of the anterior mediastinum, poses the question of histogenesis of squamous-cell carcinoma arising in this location. Reasons are given for believing that this tumor arose in the thymus. Both tumors were resected successfully.Case ReportB.R. (B.I.H. 29155), a 66-year-old . . .Keywords
