Cross-Cultural Developmental Performance of Navajo Children on the Bender-Gestalt Test

Abstract
Developmental data on a cross-cultural population of 160 Navajo Indians and Anglos were obtained for the Bender-Gestalt test. Two age groups of 6- to 7- and 11- to 12-yr.-old children were tested. Significant differences obtained between ethnic groups and age groups. 6- to 7-yr.-old Navajo children produced more distortions than Anglo children of this age. However, at 12 yr. of age, Navajo children functioned at the same competence level as the Anglos.
