Abstract

The enhancement of the

γ + p \to η + p

total cross section near threshold is explained in terms of the

S

-wave resonance used to fit the similar enhancement of the

π + p \to η + n

cross section. The approximate mass and width of the resonance are 1560 and 150 MeV, respectively.
