High Resolution Photodetachment ofS−Near Threshold

Abstract

A tunable dye laser has been used to measure the fine-structure splitting of the ${}_{}{}^2{}_{}{}^{}P$ state of ${\mathrm{S}}^{-}$ in a crossed-beam photodetachment experiment. These measurements verify photodetachment threshold laws and provide the most accurate experimental determination of any electron affinity.
