ADRENAL DISCHARGE PRODUCED BY DRUGS INJECTED INTO THE ADRENAL

Abstract
In dogs under chloralose the Tournade and Chabrol transfusion technique was carried out. The recipient''s blood pressure and denervated heart rate were recorded. Injections of 0.1-0.2 cc. of various solutions were made directly into the donor''s adrenal gland of the anastomozed side. Normal saline or normal horse serum gave no effect on the recipient; nor did strophanthin, histamine, or the venom of Butus quin-questriatus. Marked rises in the recipient''s blood pressure and cardio-acceleration were produced by similarly injecting nicotin, eserin, hydrastinin, adrenalin, pilocarpin, morphin and large doses of arecolin, acetylcholin, quinin, atropin and strychnin. Only slight effects resulted from injections of Wit''s peptone, veratrin, picrotoxin and the venoms of Lachesis alter-natus and Naja tripudians.
