Abstract
1 and 4 sq. ft. trays covered with samples of the substratum from which the fauna had previously been removed were left exposed for various periods up to 12 weeks. Recolonization began within 12 hrs. Much more movement occurred at night than in the day, although a few insects showed the reverse tendency. These movements appear at random and are probably correlated with feeding activities.
