NOVEL METHOD FOR ESTIMATING HYDROGEN-BONDED CO2H GROUPS IN HUMIC SUBSTANCES

Abstract

The significance of 2 bands observed during IR studies on humic substances of tropical volcanic soils are assessed, and a method based on IR spectrophotometry is proposed which permits partitioning of total CO2H groups in humic substances into hydrogen-bonded and non-hydrogen-bonded (free) CO2H groups. The method is applicable to humic acids, humins and fulvic acids.
