On the molecular structure of thin molten polyethylene films

Abstract
Observations by transmission electron microscopy and electron diffraction suggesting that thin molten polyethylene films have a smectic liquid crystal structure consisting of layers of folded molecules are reported. The thickness of each layer is observed to be about 400 to 500 Å.Keywords
