The Energy Response of a Victoreen Condenser Ionization Chamber

Abstract
The energy response of a graphite wall chamber and a 25-r typical Victoreen chamber over the range of photon energies from 40 kev to 1.2 mev were measured and compared. In the conventional X-ray range, the response of the Victoreen chamber does not differ by more than about 2% from a mean value of 1.08; but between the upper end of the X-ray region at 100 kev and the flat region at higher energies there is a drop of over 6% in the response. Theoretical response curves for chambers composed of combinations of graphite and heavier elements are compared with the Victoreen curve.
