Abstract
In the statistical analysis of the environmental sampling data the empirical observation of the best representation of the data by a log‐normal distribution is theoretically proved. The consequences of this proof in the data analysis is discussed and an example utilizing data from a field study is given to illustrate the appropriateness of using the log‐normal statistics. Keywords
