Regan Isoenzyme in Patients with Hematopoietic Tumors

Abstract
The incidence of the Regan isoenzyme (RI) in 94 patients with lymphoma and 37 with leukemia was studied. A significant increase was observed in patients with stage IV Hodgkin’s disease and poorly-differentiated lymphoma. Levels of serum alkaline phosphatase were not correlated with the incidence of patients with RI. RI represented less than 1% of the serum levels of alkaline phosphatase. In 52 patients, no association of RI with carcinoembryonic antigen was noted. Serial RI determination in a patient with Hodgkin’s disease failed to reveal any correlation of RI levels with disease activity, but did reveal a positive correlation of RI levels with a rectal abscess. The potential usefulness of serial RI determinations in patients such as those investigated in this study is unclear.
