Starch Gel Electrophoresis of Rat Hypophysis in Relation to Prolactin Activity.

Abstract
Summary As revealed by starch gel electrophoresis of hypophyseal suspensions, a slowly-moving protein band (A) was eliminated by combined ovariectomy, thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy. It was not restored by estrogen therapy. These operations similarly reduced the prominence of a rapidly moving band (J) which was restored by estrogen therapy. Prolactin activity was concentrated in band J and the adjacent portion (area 6) of the column.
