Abstract
The am-moniacal extract of the wings of 850,000. butterflies (P. rapae, P. napi, P. brassicae) was conc, and centrifugalized. After standing a week, 15 g. of a yellowish brown substance crystallized, from which 10 g. of uric acid were obtained. The uric acid was identified by analysis, by oxidation to allantoin, and by comparison with the Debye-Sherrer diagram. Hypoxanthine, choline, histidine, and leucine were isolated from the aqueous extract of the butterfly wings.
