Abstract
A review considering: (1) the manner by which the contractile effort of the heart responds to the work-load imposed upon it, (2) the factors that determine the O2 requirements of the heart as its performance alters, and (3) how the O2 needs of the heart are met by adjustments in coronary flow and in the rate of O2 extraction.Keywords
