Abstract

The mechanism of the diacetyl reaction for guanidine derivatives is explained in that 2 molecules of the diketone condense with loss of water, the condensation product uniting with 3 molecules of guanidine or its derivative. Based on this, 2 micromethods for the determination of creatine in muscle extracts, and arginine in proteins, are described; the error in each is less than 5%.
