Obligatory Function of a Continuous Flow of Normal Bile for Cholesterol Absorption

Abstract
Cholesterol-4-C14 and cholesterol-4-C14 stearate are absorbed into the chyle of the rat to an average extent of approximately 44%. They are not absorbed except in traces when the bile is diverted externally by means of a fistula. The artificial means used to date for restoring bile to the upper intestine have not resulted in the absorption of cholesterol or its stearate.
