Electric Hexadecapole Transition Moment inSm152

Abstract
The Coulomb excitation of the 4+ rotational state of a deformed nucleus can proceed by both double E2 and single E4 transitions. The excitation cross section also contains a term corresponding to the interference between the two. The Coulomb excitation of Sm152 with He4 projectiles has been carefully measured and the results were analyzed with a computer program including E4 terms. Best fits were obtained for 0+M(E4)4+=(+0.35±0.11)e b2.
